What is Palmistry?
Palmistry (aka "palm reading", "chirology", or "chiromancy") is the practice of fortune telling through the study of the palm of the hand.
What is the history of Palmistry?
Regarding the ancient practice of Palmistry, it has been practiced in the cultures of India, Nepal, Tibet, China, Persia, Sumeria, Canaan and Babylonia.
Its roots are believed to have come from Hindu astrology, Chinese Yijing, and Roma fortune tellers.
Palmistry was also used in Renaissance magic and was considered one of the seven "forbidden arts". Other arts forbidden at the time included: necromancy, geomancy, aeromancy, pyromancy, hydromancy, and spatulamancy (scapulimancy).
Palmistry got its revival in the 1830s.
The Chirological Society of Great Britain was founded in London by Katharine St. Hill in 1889 in an attempt to advance and systematize the art of palmistry and to prevent fraudulent readings. Edgar de Valcourt-Vermont (Comte C. de Saint-Germain) founded the American Chirological Society in 1897.
How is Palmistry performed?
Palms are read in order to evaluate someone's character or for divination by observing lines, mounts, and sometimes characteristics of the fingers, fingernails, fingerprints, and palmar skin patterns, skin texture and color, shape of the palm, and flexibility of the hand.
If you have any additional questions about this process, Adam would be happy to answer them for you!
